As an OG Substack reader, I don’t think I’ve read more culturally insightful and informative article than this. Plus the writing is terrific on its own. As for the substance, I never thought they would go quietly. Their whole act is about making noise and drawing attention to themselves.

Tumblr was a poisonous echo chamber where buzzwords were flung like candy and everyone whinged about how miserable they were, when they weren't gushing over progressive (mis)readings of Disney movies or anime.

If you wanted to aspire to improve your life and understand the world better, they hated it. If you wanted CONTEXT or NUANCE, they hated it.

They blamed straight, white men for literally everything in the world and didn't want to hear otherwise.

And that's the point. Blue Sky is going to be that as well, quite possibly on steroids.

That's my fear, too.

The DEI "courses" that companies PAID for were an absolute joke, because you could literally find the exact same bullshit on Tumblr for FREE.

Oh, and they used Progressivism to play Status Game and insisted not getting their fetishes fulfilled in fiction was an act of violence and hate.

Thank you for reporting on this. I don't frequent any of this online hiveminds. I much prefer my real-life. So, I'm a bit in the dark about what they are like. This was informative.

Can they make any headway in a bubble screaming at the enemy when nobody else hears them or cares?

like the man said:

"people who hold woke ideas still run most universities, most sense-making institutions, most journalism companies, most cultural institutions, and most art institutions. They tend to dominate the culture industry in terms of the production of movies, music, television, books, comics, art, and so fourth, and they still have tremendous cultural cache owing to the fact that huge numbers of artists are woke."

This is real power and it will not be killed off by one lost election. Just about everyone who is under 35 and a graduate of an elite institution is a believer in Social Justice ideology (it is considered basic etiquette) and they will only get more powerful as they age and as more classically liberal people die off.

This vampire is wounded but there is no stake through its heart.

Yes. Because that's how it starts. It started with even more humble origins on Tumblr and looks where it's come. Small beginnings.

All are good reasons to avoid Bluesky

Yes. The revolutionaries never go away. It’s called revolution because it keeps coming back around.

Yeah but their ideas suck and nobody likes them (them or their ideas).

What I say sounds like strange response to Bluesky, Woke and such, but: Translate Thomas Sowell's 'Applied Economics' and 'Basic Economics' (the newest expanded editions) to all the national languages of the world (where this has not already happened), and perhaps some other comparable books, like Murray Rothbard's 'Man, Economy and State'. This is the beginning of the end of socialism as we know it.

Bluesky is better software than X, overall. Someone smart is in charge of the company. Not that Musk isn't smart, but his operational person in charge of features and user interface is not.

Very good. But " its", not "it's".

Very interesting analysis. Shall we join them on Bluesky for some good old fashion trolling?

Good post. I would re-write one bit though, to this:

"These are very likely going to be the people who do work in progressive policy making, sensitivity training, workplace HR, DEI programs, and social activism. In other words, people who would have been on the 'B' Ark in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." ;)

The main memory I have of my few visits to Tumblr is how easy it was for porn to appear, no matter how anodyne the initial search.
